If your trail race has roots, rocks, steep climbs, mud, pinecones, or sand… you should train on them too!
Your body (and brain) need practice reading the ground, finding traction, and adjusting your stride. Race day shouldn’t be the first time your ankles meet a root or your quads feel a steep descent.
✅ Build confidence on tricky footing
✅ Train your stabilizing muscles
✅ Learn how to pace through slow, technical sections
✅️ Remind yourself to pick up your feet
✅️ Practice using poles if you are able to use them on race day
The terrain is part of the challenge. Make it part of your training!
